About Occupational therapy and our centers

Occupational Therapy celebrated it's 100th Anniversary in 2017.  Occupational Therapy has roots in mental health and the belief that one has to be "occupied" in order to be healthy.  Occupations are the activities that people engage in day to day and occupy their time.  Occupations range from vital functions such as eating and sleeping to play, leisure and recreational activities.  Every person has a unique set of occupations.  Occupational Therapists have a broad education that encompasses training in mental health, anatomy, physiology, development, biomechanics, splinting and orthotics, kinesiology as well as health and wellness in order to address impairments that restrict a person's ability to engage in their day to day activities or occupations.

Pediatric Occupational Therapy focuses on the occupations of children.  In our practice we address impairments that restrict participation in sleep, feeding, dressing, toileting, play, recreation, education and for older children; participation in home management tasks such as chores or meal preparation, work and productive tasks.

We specialize in delivering holistic, client centered and evidence based interventions to establish, restore or remediate impairments in fine motor skills, gross motor skills, motor planning, oral motor or feeding skills, sensory processing, cognitive or executive functioning and social emotional skills so that children can participate as fully as possible in activities that are meaningful to them and their families.
